What is excipient?

Easily soluble in water and solvents containing halogenated hydrocarbons, alcohols, amines, nitroalkanes and low molecular fatty acids, etc., but insoluble in a few solvents such as acetone, ether, turpentine, aliphatic hydrocarbons, and alicyclic hydrocarbons. Compatible with most inorganic salts and various resins.

Application:

①Cosmetic

The C-N-C=0 group of cosmetic PVP is similar to the peptide bond of protein and has a good protective effect on hair and skin. The copolymer of its monomer NVP and vinyl acetate can be used as a film-forming agent for various hair care products and styling agents. The copolymerization of NVP and long-chain alpha-olefin produces a surface-active film-forming agent, which has the characteristics of water resistance and moisture resistance; they formed film is water-soluble, transparent, clear, bright, and stiff, and has replaced the natural insect hair spray used in the past. PVP has good moisturizing properties, acts as a protective colloid in emulsions, and can be used as a stabilizer for fatty and non-fatty pastes. PVP used in lipsticks, eye shadows, and mascaras can reduce the irritation of pigments and certain ingredients to the skin. PVP used in toothpaste can remove soot and other stains from teeth, and has a good effect on whitening teeth, preventing dental plaque, curing gingivitis, and oral diseases.

②Cleaning Products

PVP of washing products has excellent anti-dirt and re-precipitation performance. When it is used in detergents, it can prevent color-crossing when washing fabrics, and prevent the irritation of synthetic detergents to the skin; especially for synthetic fibers, this performance is better than that of carboxymethyl. Cellulose (CMC) based detergents are more prominent. PVP and hydrogen peroxide solid complex is formulated into detergents to bleach and kill germs. When PVP is used in soaps, it can improve the bonding strength of bar soap and improve the strength and foam stability of soap flakes. Insanitary soaps can form complexes with bactericides to reduce skin irritation. Adding povidone to hand sanitizers effectively removes dirt and bacteria and protects the skin from irritation.

③Food industry

Polyvinylpyrrolidone can be used for the concentration and stabilization of non-nutritive sweetened condiments, as well as for the concentrated extraction of vitamins and minerals. ④Textile dyeing and finishing industry

PVP has a strong affinity with many organic dyes, mainly because the amide structure in the PVP molecule is combined with organic functional groups such as hydroxyl and amino groups in the dye. It can be combined with hydrophobic synthetic fibers such as polyacrylonitrile, ester, nylon, and fibrous materials to greatly improve their dyeing strength and hydrophilicity. PVP can also be used as an anti-staining agent for fabrics, a stripping agent, a fast reducing agent for dyes, and a buffer and dispersing agent for pigments. After the graft copolymerization of PVP and nylon, the fabrics produced have improved wet wrinkle resistance and moisture resistance, and in the presence of PVP, most dyes become easily soluble in water, which increases the dyeing ability of dyes and makes dyeing and finishing.
