Iodophor is a big name, and povidone-iodine is the most commonly used variety in iodophor. Iodophor is a complexation of chlorhexidine alcohol and iodine plus a surfactant, while povidone-iodine is a complexation of iodine and pvp. The effective iodine concentration of iodophor is 0.2%, and the effective iodine concentration of povidone-iodine is 5%-1%. Different objects are used, iodophor is a skin disinfectant, and povidone-iodine is a skin and mucous membrane disinfectant. The sterilization effect is also different, iodophor is stronger than povidone iodine. Povidone-iodine exerts an antibacterial effect by continuously releasing free iodine. Its mechanism of action is to denature and die the protein of the bacteria. It is effective against bacteria, fungi and viruses. Its broad-spectrum bactericidal power is strong, the toxicity is low, and there is almost no irritation and corrosiveness. In addition, povidone-iodine is also available as an oral solution, but it is suitable for disinfection of livestock, especially turtles.
